When we talk about games that define a genre, Chasm will be the go-to example for metroidvanias. It has platforming, it has exploration, it has items, and it has bats for you to murder.
I really DIG this game HAHAHA oh my god what have I become
If that title is too repetitive for you, you’re probably not going to like this game.
Sometimes you find a game that’s hard to describe to people without weaving a long, intricate tale about everything that’s great about it. Sometimes, when someone asks “what’s it about?” all you can say is “Just buy it. Trust me.”
Sometimes Steam Greenlight is good. Sometimes it’s bad! Sometimes it’s weird. Let’s investigate!
Starting with a dead planet, a seed, a PewPewtm laser pistol, and a magic 8 ball to guide you through your quest, Cosmochoria is a game about bringing life back to a barren galaxy. From the get go, alien UFO’s spawn, raining down laser fire and dropping invaders to the surface for you to fight. All the while, you must nurture your plants as they grow and give you new seeds to expand further.

She killed them all.
Welcome to Gnomoria!
Banished appears straight forward and easy when you first start…but quickly reveals itself to be a well balanced and challenging ‘survival class’ city builder unlike any other I’ve played!
It is a “Hardcore Platformer” that demands what most games of this genre demand from its fans: precision timing and accuracy on your jumps, a patient and determinate disposition, and dedication to memorizing the level layouts as they pound it into your brain mercilessly through an innumerable amount of shameful deaths. ESJ did it very well and if you found it enjoyable, as I did, then you will feel right at home with Groove City.
